Summer Reading Lists
In an effort not to reinvent the wheel I am including several great links to summer reading lists from across the country.
Houston Independent Schools has posted PDF's for each grade level so you can print it and check off books as you read them! Parkway Summer Reading List has both read alouds and independent reading books for grades K-6 American Library Assoc. Notable Book List for 2012 lists the best books published in the last year. Connecticut's Summer reading lists - this link takes you to K-2, click the links to get to the other grade levels Here's a great middle school booklist made by another librarian.
Mixing in Math - A collection of fun activities that can be done at home to support the different mathematical concepts
The Kids Should See This - a collection of kid friendly movies about art, science, music, etc. Check back as more are added regularly.
Briones Science Lab - Karen Kessler has put together a website with great science websites, the science curriculum for each grade, pictures and more.
The Miss Rumphius Effect - The blog of a teacher educator discussing poetry, children's literature and issues related to teaching children and their future teachers. You will find articles on a variety of aspects of reading and literature for children.
Read To Me - This website offers videos of stories being read aloud as well as follow-up extension activities (look under "Lesson Plans") to do with your child to increase literacy skills.
